Finally Friday

Just got back from a new bible study-Women of Grace-with some ladies from the Seward area. Enjoyed the fellowship and discussion! Can’t wait to go back again in 2 weeks. I love to hear their faith stories.

Looking forward to visiting Katherine next weekend. If it turns out she has too much studying to do, I may have to go another time. Will try to see Clare’s volleyball tourney on the way down.

Bean harvest is in full swing. I hope it remains uneventful so Kevin & Duane can make a lot of progress. I’m going to have to get out there and ride in the combine soon.

I over-dosed on Third Day this afternoon. I played “Rise Up” from their Wherever You Are cd about 5 times in the car. I can just never get enough of that song. “Eagles” is another one on that same album that I just have to hear over and over again. Too bad they don’t play those songs live in concert anymore.

Got my hair-cut yesterday and I do feel she cut it quite short. On the up-side, I know it will grow out. And it is much more manageable. I guess I can get used to it.

Picked more apples today…. only to give them away. There are more left on the tree–plenty to make a cobbler or apple crisp. Looking forward to making some progress around the house this weekend. I have a big dinner to prepare for the Cross Country team on Monday. Might start making lasagnas on Sunday. Also need to come up with an interesting/exciting CCD lesson on …… prayer for next week. Been thinking about how I’m blessed with good friends!

September Morning

My ears are so clogged with wax that I need to go in today and have each of them irrigated. Hopefully, I’ll be able to hear a little better after that.

CCD seems to be going ok. I think I’m going to have a solid attendance of 7 kids each week. I’ll know more as the weeks go on. Sarah is already looking forward to Theology of the Body.

Been thinking of the November 2010 cruise….it’s so far off but I am looking forward to it so much. It’s nice to have something to hope for even if it is off in the distant future.

Talked to Connie on the phone today for about an hour. I heard about their new home they just purchased in FL. They’ll be moving down there at the end of October. It should be a great place for them to retire in a few years.

Katherine seems happy at BC and the grandparents drove down to see her yesterday. I heard that a young mother who recently lost her husband is going through a terrible time. It was her second marriage and he was killed in a 4-wheeler accident. She has two young children and is not handling things well since her husband was killed a few weeks ago. I sent another card to her today. It’s very hard to know what to say in a situation like that. I wanted her to know of my support.

A blessing-John B. stopped by here on the way to school this morning with a cake. They won 4 of them at the Cake Walk at their church bazaar over the weekend. I popped it into the freezer and will use it as a CCD snack Wed. night. Little blessing. The other nice blessing was my new Matt Maher cd arrived in the mail last week. I left a comment on a blog/web-site (I was one of the first 30 to do so) so that is how I got the free cd-”Alive Again.” Thanks Dan Gross, for posting that on Twitter so I could take advantage of the offer!

Thank you Lord Jesus for everything that is right in my life.

Early September

I’m trying to get into the swing of the school year, the upcoming Cross-Country season, the junior-high volleyball season and teaching CCD in general. For some reason I’m still suffering from non-zeal. I really need to get on this and be praying for the Holy Spirit to help me out. I’m beginning to think Father should have chosen someone with more zeal to do this job. I’m hoping my prayers will be answered and that this will improve with time. The Labor Day weekend was full of busyness, a bit of relaxation, some planning, cantoring at Mass on Sunday, yard work and shopping. We ended up turning down an invite to a BBQ so we could spend the evening at home due to the hectic upcoming week. It would have been nice to see old friends, but we just didn’t feel like dragging in late tonight. I hope I don’t regret this decision later. We’ve had a lot of challenges when it comes to keeping up with our friends over the years, not to mention family.

Help me, Lord Jesus to have zeal to teach CCD and to do it with joy, love and patience. Help me to understand my fellow parishioners. Help me to do your Holy will. Amen.

End of August

I’m not keeping this blog up very well. We took Katherine to Benedictine College last weekend. While I don’t worry about her at all (she is the first to admit she’s right where she’s supposed to be), it leaves a hole in my heart that she is gone. I’ve been compensating by busying myself with other things. Life goes on…..we had a CCD teacher’s meeting Wednesday night. Thank goodness it was non-controversial. Still, I am not pumped as I usually am for the first night of CCD. With all of the changes happening to Katherine and with her leaving the house, I have not been able to focus on much else in great depth. I’ve been praying to the Holy Spirit for inspiration but He hasn’t kicked-in to full gear yet. Maybe this is a sign that someone else would have been better suited to this job. I will see it through for one more year. I’ll be preparing over the weekend so I’m ready for our first night next Wed.

Looks like we will be doing some more remodeling….we want to change the picture window in the living room. There is some rotting going on in the wood underneath the siding. Will be looking at a new window configuration soon. Have to go…errands!

Busy Days

Yesterday I made two trips to Lincoln. I don’t think this has ever happened before, or if it did happen, it was so long ago that I can’t remember. Early yesterday, Chris and I went to visit the ortopaedist about his broken pinky finger. Turns out it has healed too well and there is not much he can do, except to not use it much for a couple more weeks. He is to avoid high impacts. Well, I turned around and headed for Seward for Chris’s ortho appmt, followed by a drive home, mowing, fixing lunch, and then another trip back to Lincoln for Clare’s 7th grde physical. I did several things yesterday that were very scatter-brained. One of them was that I left my cell-phone sitting in a large 3-ring binder book at the doctor’s office. Luckily, I discovered it was missing before I left Lincoln and after a quick visit back to the doctor’s office, found that it had been left in the 3-ring binder.

Another scatter-brained thing I did was to NOT pick up a prescription for Clare even though I was at the grocery store. Will have to go after it today. The 3rd thing I did was to NOT bring the requested gas-can over to the farm to be filled when I took Sarah over there to help lay out irrigation pipe. I think I just had to much on my mind yesterday….and hopefully this is not dimentia setting in.

Heard from mom this am that dad is back in the hospital as his pnumonia situation was not clearing up. We are hoping they will not keep him for very long. The whole family is supposed to get together at mom and dad’s on Saturday. This event is now up in the air. I’m expecting my sister-in-law and her children to come here this afternoon and evening. I’m making a spaghetti dinner. Mike is still over-seas in Quatar so he will not be able to join us as the family has in previous years.

Lincoln Salt Dogs game tomorrow night. Looking forward to something relaxing! I’m going along with the altar servers and representing the musicians/cantors from our parish!

Still no rain. Irrigating is very busy right now. I will not be asking to go to the Third Day concert again, if it doesn’t rain next week.

Lazy Day

After entertaining last evening and hanging out in Seward yesterday I am enjoying a relaxing day at home. I even managed to take a short nap. We also ordered a new TV as we are having a lot of problems with our current set. Goodbye converter box.

During mass, I re-visited the idea of teaching CCD in the fall. Between the readings of today, Father’s homily and some of the other influences I’ve experienced when reading my devotions over the past few weeks, I decided I’ll probably give teaching CCD another try this year. After all, I’ll have Sarah in my class again and that has to be worth something.

Tomorrow morning: walking beans for volunteer corn.

All things worked out today!

I woke up very anxious. Amazingly, it was over some very stupid stuff. I was concerned about coordinating my time during the day so I could meet with a friend (who I haven’t seen for 3 years) who was dropping by. My friend contacted me only last night about getting together and it ended up that we could not meet, but instead, we talked on the phone for awhile as she was on the road. Secondly, some potential July 4th guests let me know that they could not attend our get-together. This was almost a relief as well. I wasn’t sure I could put together a really fun & entertaining evening for them. Thirdly, our internet was down yesterday for quite awhile. I was worried it was a problem with our computer and that I would have to spend a lot of time on the phone straightening it out. But, by the time I was ready to call our internet provider to visit with them about it, the internet was back up. All things worked out today! I may sound anti-social, but it’s just how I’m feeling right now.

I went to my Holy Hour today before the Blessed Sacrament and felt much better after I got home. The prayer and reflection time did me wonders. I guess Jesus knows what I need in this life….I just have to trust him to help and guide me. I loved my one hour date with Jesus.

Took Clare to volleyball camp at Doane College today which she very much enjoyed. Also, shopped at Walmart, got a haircut, sliced up fruit. Sure wish I was going to that Third Day concert in KC in July. Still working on it. Walked beans this week looking for volunteer corn on “the 80.” House AC was out for 48 hours while waiting for a part. I have a new appreciation for it now. Chris had baseball tournament in Rising City this week. They lost last night and came in second place. Chris injured his pinky finger during warm-ups and had to play for another boy who was also hurt. Eventful week. Lastly, I’m finally getting Bishop Vasa’s e-columns. For so long, they have not been e-mailed to me (it’s a mystery….never knew why). So this week, I tried again and voila! I’m once again receiving his e-columns! Woo-Hoo!
